THE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT. . The Department of Commerce is an enormous agency with important subdivisions in the form of Bureaus of and special administrations. Those include the Patent Office, The Bureau of the Census, international trade agencies and Minority development departments. Review all of these entities at the main site of the United States Department of Commerce. -- -- NOMINATION AND APPOINTMENT PROCESS Presidential appointees offer their resignation from office effective at noon January 20th, each Inauguration year, at the latest. Nominations of appointees are made by the President (Click here) and have a major "vetting" or background check made by the White House and various government agencies, including the FBI before being announced and forwarded to the United States Senate for confirmation hearings. There is a Senate committee for each subject area in the government. The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee which holds hearings and votes for or against confirmation is at this address: Click here. You can follow the progress of a nomination, including studying the hearings, there is an audio record made accessible from the internet, and voting results are available. If a nomination is approved by the hearings committee, you can follow the final confirmation at the United States Senate.-
