Governor's PatronageHundreds of federal patronage positions open up and are filled each year. These have varying degrees of local state and national interest and impact. They are divided into patronage for both political parties by law, depending on the political party in the White House at a give time. Elected political figures at all levels and all citizens have the legal right to suggest or nominate individuals to fill those positions, and to argue for their appointment. Some require confirmation by the Senate of the United States, but most do not. At least several thousand positions are open at any one time. Governors or others making nominations do not have to be of the President's political party, nor does a person have to be an elected officer to put a name forward for nomination. Patronage is an extremely effective way to impact government policy for politicians and citizens alike. These listings are nowhere near complete, so if you have an interest in another field, contact us at Director@Presidential-Appointments.org so we can help you find subject areas of interest where nominations. The nomination and appointment process is usually a slow exercise, so items where there is presently an opening, or may become vacant or open in a reasonable time are noted in red. Please contact us if you need help organizing or supporting a nomination.
